ILIGAN CITY —– The local government unit (LGU) of Oroquieta City has signed an agreement with British drugmaker AstraZeneca to purchase 120,000 doses of its covid-19 vaccine.
Oroquieta City Mayor Lemuel Meyrick Acosta made the announcement on Sunday, January 10 through his official Facebook account.
Acosta said this will cover two doses for 60,000 residents aged 18 years old and older.
Oroquieta City has a population of 70,757 based on the 2015 census.
Acosta said the LGU would allocate an initial P30 million for the vaccine doses for his constituents. However, he said he is not allowed to disclose how much each vaccine costs because of a Non-Disclosure Agreement with the company.
“I’m not allowed to state the price and other information but it is a multilateral agreement with the manufacturer and the national government,” Acosta said.
“The COVID-19 vaccine under the program will be offered free of charge to all qualified residents of the city,” he said in a January 6 announcement.
As of January 3, 2021, Oroquieta had 107 active cases of COVID-19, with total of 258 confirmed cases since the start of the pandemic.
The city’s COVID-19 Inter Agency Task Force (IATF) recorded five deaths and 146 recoveries.
On January 4 and 5, Acosta issued executive orders placing 19 puroks (zones) from 14 barangays on localized lockdowns and focused containments “to prevent, contain and mitigate the impact of the COVID-19 contagion in the area”.
